The Buffalo Tavern
Built in 1872, locals have referred to the home as “the large white house on Buffalo Road.” Today, The Buffalo Tavern best known for its inviting full country breakfast, meticulously clean accommodations and a spacious porch stocked with rockers for a lazy evening of sightseeing.
The beautiful building boasts seven fireplaces and two staircases. The original homeowner, George Washington Ray, was a talented woodworker and crafted most of the exquisite details found throughout the home (like the champagne glass that was carved out of the top of the newel post on the front staircase!)
Prior to becoming a bed and breakfast, the home opened as a tavern in the late 1800s. Buffalo Road was part of a major conglomeration of highways from Tennessee to Jefferson, and spare bedrooms were used to house guests that traveled along these roads. A large grapevine and cornfields were planted soon after to provide fresh wine and corn liquor for guests.
Now, modern guests can enjoy the rich history of the home while enjoying all of the modern amenities. The President’s Suite comes complete with a queen-sized bed, two-person claw foot tub, Wi-Fi and a fully stocked wet bar. Or stay in The Governor’s Room with soft cotton sheets, complimentary cable and a private bath.
No matter which room you choose, you’re sure to enjoy the private setting and stunning mountain views from the comfort of your own space.
